Description |
The Gateway as it is sometimes called is the
narrow cut in the rock that allows the tracks to enter the small
three track yard in the area that became know as Crawford Notch. In
the past there was but a narrow carriage road, today there is New
Hampshire’s route 302 which runs next to the rails as they begin
their drop to the valley below and the town of Bartlett. With the
beginnings of the Saco river running beneath it route 302 has
Elephants Head rock overlooking everything in the Notch and the
tracks as they approach the Notch. |
